We first met Andres Fahsen 6 years back on the side of the road close to Volcan Toliman. His enthusiasm, energy and great demeanor were infectious. He is a 5th generation coffee producer and owner of the agro-forest farm, Santo Tomás Pachuj. It’s no surprise that Andres’ first memories were made at Finca Pachuj with his family and that he hopes one day his daughter will become its next generation.

The name Pachuj is actually a Kaqchikel word, an indigenous Guatemalan language meaning “where the mist meets the forest.” This description could not be more accurate. The micro-climate of this region, which has high levels of humidity and varying heights of topography, often creates clouds seemingly hugging the forests as they climb over the mountainous landscape.

To preserve this incredible landscape, Andres maintains a passion for sustainable, organic agro-forestry farming so the life of the farm can be enjoyed for generations to come. He has held Rain Forest Certification since the early 2000’s which has a strong focus on the care of the land.

Andres also takes great pride in Pachuj’s ability to employ workers from this region with a living wage and a familial work atmosphere. He provides working benefits for his employees, which is not common in most Guatemalan coffee farms.
