Why Do We Love This Coffee?

This coffee from the small holders of Tablón de Gomez is a quintessential offering that represents the unique terroir of Nariño, Colombia. Due to high elevation, and a unique nightly migration of warm, humid air from the valleys below to the mountains above, coffees from Nariño develop high acidity and intense sweetness. It’s a standout region in a country full of excellent coffees and coffee growers, and Tablón de Gomez bears the standard of Nariño well.

Why Do We Work With This Producer?

Terra Coffee / Cooperativa de Cafés Especiales de Nariño

Established in 2016, Terra Coffee is a producer group specializing in producing high-quality coffees in the Huila and Nariño departments of Colombia. 140 producer partners contribute to the association in Nariño (called Ecoterra), and with the management of Terra Coffee, strive for higher quality, and a clear representation of the region's unique terroir. The Nariño Specialty Coffee Cooperative is another small producer association, that shares a common goal with Terra Coffee; to improve the quality of life for all participants in the production of high-quality coffees, not just the farmers, but the communities that surround them! Quality in coffee is the pathway to well-being, especially for volume-limited producers; this is a core belief of both organizations. As lot quality increases (and thus prices paid for producers’ coffees), the impact is not only felt by the farm owners, but the children, elders, and women of the household whose essential contributions are often unpaid. In small farming communities such as the ones that make up Ecoterra and Cooperativa de..., the collective work being put forth by themselves and the management of each coop only serves to improve the quality of life, and in turn fosters the pride that is felt in offering the best fruits of their labor to the world.
