Why do we love this coffee?

Biya Faris is a long standing member of the Tokuma Farmer Group in Western Ethiopia (more later), and this lot from his farm is well structured, bringing light florals, sweet citrus, and aromatic spices that create an incredibly balanced cup. It’s a perfect representation of coffees from Jimma, and we’re very happy to offer something like this from an often overlooked region of the birthplace of coffee.

Osito Coffee / Tokuma Farmer Group

Osito Coffee, since 2018, has been a green coffee company with its prime focus on building lasting relationships between coffee growers and roasters.They operate on fixed-price, multi- grade contracts with growers, ensuring fair and guaranteed compensation for the efforts of farmers. With beginnings in Colombia, they have also had roots in Ethiopia since 2019!

With demand always rising for transparency in the marketplace, and high coffee quality, Osito has been able to direct that business toward its long-term partnerships, in particular with the Tokuma Farmer Group in Western Ethiopia.

The Tokuma Group aids in farmers’ organization of commerce, as well as sharing industry knowledge with its partners.As is the case with well-oiled collective action, involvement with Tokuma provides farmers with the ability to increase quality over the years, and in turn fetch a higher price for their crop.

Being able to support the same people year after year serves to not only strengthen consistency and quality in coffee, but creates a more equitable way of life for those who dedicate themselves to growing coffee!
