Umoja PB

Guava, Grape Jelly & Vibrant

A peaberry selection from Mkulima Kwanza AMCOS in Tanzania's Mbozi District, produced in partnership with Keremba Warioba and Communal Shamba. Umoja means "unity" in Swahili, a fitting name for a coffee built around collaboration between smallholder producers, their cooperative, and a team working to create more value for Tanzanian coffee.

About this coffee

Umoja continues our relationship with Keremba Warioba and Communal Shamba, this time through the producers of Mkulima Kwanza AMCOS.

Keremba and the Communal Shamba team work with smallholder producer groups throughout Tanzania's Southern Highlands, helping connect farmers more directly with specialty coffee markets while investing in processing, quality, and stronger local infrastructure.

Mkulima Kwanza was established in collaboration with Communal Shamba with an ambition to rethink the traditional value chain. By consolidating coffee from smallholders, improving processing, and creating differentiated lots, the cooperative has been able to pursue markets where quality and traceability carry greater value.

This lot is a peaberry selection. Most coffee cherries develop two seeds with flat sides facing one another. Occasionally, a cherry develops just one round seed instead. These peaberries are separated during grading to create a distinct lot from the wider harvest.

Umoja means "unity" in Swahili. It's an appropriate name for a coffee that exists because of the work between producers, their cooperative, and Communal Shamba.

After recently sharing Mandomashe, we're happy to show another part of the work Keremba and his team are doing in Tanzania. Different cooperative, different coffee, same commitment to creating more value closer to where coffee is grown.
